With Game of Thrones, season 7 finally returning to our television screens on 16th July, I thought it was about time to compile a list talking through some of my favourite scenes and WTF moments.
WARNING: This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS.
1. JON SNOW LIVES
Starks always do the right/honourable thing and it always ends up getting them killed. If George RR Martin was not afraid to kill off Ned Stark, then he will not hesitant to kill off Jon Snow. Even Maisie Williams said he was dead. There were many theories that he will be brought back to life by Mellisandra and what do ya know? It came true! It all went down in episode 2 and I have never ever been so satisfied by a fictional character. I thought the writers would drag it out and I am so glad that they didn’t! This is definitely one of my favourite scenes. JUSTICE! It was such a fangirl moment (and I don’t do fangirling…)
2. STARKS REUNITE
After Jon said “my watch is over” I thought, no no no, Jon you can’t leave the Wall before Sansa gets there! That would be a disservice to the show and to the fans, they
have to must reunite. It seems like the writers are listening to the fans 🙂 that scene where Jon and Sansa sees each other for the first time since the pilot was very moving. I watched that scene over and over again. It was a beautiful scene. It did that episode justice. It’s funny because in the beginning they didn’t mean anything to each other but now, they mean so much more to each other because they are all they have left.
Hodor’s real name and backstory in Bran’s flashback. This is definitely one of he best episodes of season 6. So Bran foolishly decided to visit the past where he witnessed a lot of deadly wights, got touched by the Night’s King and now they’re coming after him. The Three Eyed Raven takes Bran back to the past, where he warged into young Hodor, instead of present Hodor, which caused Hodor the way he is. Plot twist.
It was confusing because what happened to Hodor happened before Bran was born, so how could that even be possible? The only conclusion I have is that it was probably destiny. Hodor’s fate was to hold the door to protect Bran and he fulfilled his destiny. It doesn’t change the fact on how sad it was.
I just have to mention that scene where Meera killed that white walker was so cool and awesome, like WHOA Meera is like the third person on the show who knows how to kill a white walker! That cave scene was so INTENSE. There were wights coming after Bran, Meera and Hodor, crawling on the sides and on the ceiling, it was so scary and I was on the edge of my seat.
4. A GIRL HAS A NAME
Arya made an unexpected visit to the Twins and disguised herself using a girl’s face, where she finally killed the three Freys to avenge the death of her mother and brother at the Red Wedding. Two of the Freys were carved into pies where Arya served it to Walder Frey, before unmasking herself and slitting his throat. I had a feeling it was her. That was a turning point for Arya. She is out for revenge and I am so looking forward to seeing more of her being an assassin.
5. BATTLE OF THE BASTARDS
This was the episode everyone has been waiting for since the beginning of the season. It’s the show’s best and most expensive episode. You want justice for the Starks because their home was taken away from them and they need to take it back. That battle seem was absolutely AMAZING. It looked terrifying and chaotic, as you would expect in a war scene and so many humans in that battle died because of the struggles to victory. Just when you think that the Starks are ultimately doomed, the Knights of the Vale appear with Petyr Baelish and Sansa to defeat the Boltons.
6. THE END OF RAMSEY (finally)
I hated Ramsey the moment he appeared on screen and I have been waiting for him to be killed off for so long. There was just so many inhuman and sadist things he did and got what he deserved in the end. It was awful enough that he repeatedly raped Sansa, but he killed his own baby brother because he was a threat. He is so much worst than Joffrey. He makes Joffrey seem somewhat decent! The most satisfying moment when Ramsey was eaten alive by his hounds and Sansa walked away smiling. The Starks don’t send their regards.
7. LYANNA MORMONT
The first time we see Lyanna Mormont, she looked so intimidating talking to Jon and Sansa! The actress did an amazing job of portraying her as a strong and fierce leader of the Bear Islands. I am all for strong female characters, she is definitely my new favourite character and my Queen of the North.
The EPIC speech that shames three lords:
“Your son was butchered at the Red Wedding, Lord Manderly, but you refused the call,” she says, the ice-cold toughness of a world-weary warrior in her young voice. “You swore allegiance to House Stark, Lord Glover, but in their hour of greatest need, you refused the call. And you, Lord Cerwyn, your father was skinned alive by Ramsay Bolton. Still you refused the call. But House Mormont remembers. The North remembers. We know no king but the King in the North whose name is Stark. I don’t care if he’s a bastard. Ned Stark’s blood runs through his veins. He’s my king from this day until his last day.”
We all know how cold-hearted Cersei Lannister is but you can’t that deny that her love for her children was the only thing that made her human (sort of) but now that three of have died horribly, she is has nothing left to lose and is now even more dangerous. That Wildfire scene was absolutely insane! Amazing but insane. I liked Margaery, she’s an interesting character because she always seemed so…sly, as if she had something up her sleeve but didn’t expect her to die so soon.
9. TOWER OF JOY FLASHBACK
It was the moment everyone has been waiting for and it has ben speculated for years especially those who have read the books and it all went down in the finale.
R+L=J is confirmed, just like everyone predicted. Jon’s parents are Rhegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, which proves once and for all that Jon is a Targaryen. He has a higher claim to the throne (not that he would take it, far too modest) and Dany is his aunty! Good thing that Jon was born with Stark features because having white blonde hair would have completely given him away. It was so expected but for those who don’t read the books, then I’d imagine this must have been one big plot twist. Think about it, honourable Ned was so quiet about who is presumably had an ‘affair’ with. The truth was that Lyanna had a baby and begged Ned to protect him. I can’t tell you how satisfying this confirmation was.
